Pawan Kumar Bansal’s assets doubled to Rs 7.70 crore since 2009 Lok Sabha elections
CHANDIGARH: Former Union Railway minister and three time MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, who is seeking re-election from Chandigarh, today declared assets including that of his wife at Rs 7.70 crore, nearly double the amount stated by him during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress nominee, who filed his nomination papers for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat today, had declared Rs 3.86 crore as assets during the last general elections. 65-year old Bansal, an advocate by profession, in the affidavit filed before the Returning Officer here, has shown his and his wife Madhu Bansal’s movable assets to the tune of Rs 1.09 crore and Rs 1.60 crore respectively.
Bansal, who is pitted against former Miss India and AAP candidate Gul Panag and BJP’s actress-turned-politician Kirron Kher, has cash in hand amounting to Rs one lakh while his wife also has same amount of cash in hand. During last five years, Bansal has bought a Honda City (2013 make) worth Rs 8.75 lakh. The Congress leader also has Maruti Esteem car (1998 make) valued at Rs 30,000. His home-maker wife does not have any car or vehicle in her name.
Among gold jewellery, Bansal has 50 gram of gold jewellery worth Rs 1.50 lakh. His wife has 1,120 gm gold jewellery worth Rs 36.88 lakh, other jewellery Rs 3.60 lakh and 12 kg of silverware worth Rs 6.48 lakh. Bansal has also declared bank deposits of Rs 11.05 lakh in PNB branch in Chandigarh, Rs 12.67 lakh in SBI Delhi, Rs 50,000 in PNB Chandigarh, Rs 2.48 lakh in SBI Delhi (joint account), Rs four lakh of SBI tax saving fixed deposit (FD) and other FDs of Rs 10.70 lakh. His wife has bank deposits of Rs 21.86 lakh in HDFC bank, Chandigarh. She also has share worth Rs 40.65 lakh in Theon Pharma in Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh
