Nomination Filing the Dhawan’s Way
“Mazhab Nahin Sikhata Aapas Me Bair Rakhna,
Hindi Hain Hum Watan Hai Hindostan Hamara”
Mr. Harmohan Dhawan, Former Union Minister Govt. of India and BSP Candidate from Chandigarh, filed his nomination at 12:20 PM today. Mr. Dhawan filed four sets of nomination papers. Only four people, including his wife and little grand daughter accompanied him. It was a very simple and solemn occasion, which was devoid of any crowd or slogan shouting.
When the media persons asked him after filing the nomination the reason of only five people accompanying him, he replied that he never wanted any traffic jams on the roads or put the people to inconvenience. In the lighter mood he added that all along his life he had been fighting for injustice and social ills in the society. He said, when he got married there were also only five persons with him and he did not accept any dowry.
Mr. Jatinder Bhatia, the councilor, filed his nomination papers as a Covering candidate.
Mr. Dhawan started his day with a “pooja” at his residence and later went to Sai Baba Mandir, Sector 29 to seek Baba’s blessing before filing his nomination papers.
Later in the afternoon, Mr. Dhawan addressed a “Muslim Bhaichara Badhao Sammellan” near Jama Masjid in Sector 20 and said that, muslims are the integral part of India’s social and cultural fabric and they have a huge contribution towards the development of the city and country. He said, that we had the permission to organize this function but it was cancelled at the eleventh hours, whereas, Mr. Bansal addressed a similar sammellan at the same venue without any hindrance. “I really don’t understand why the Administration is acting in a biased manners?” He said, that he is being threathned by the police officials that a case will be registered against him, but he said, “Why to register a case, arrest me instead. I have been to jail nine times earlier also for the cause of poor and downtrodden people. Let it be the tenth time.”
He said, when he won in 1989, he brought Medical College and hospital in Sector 32 to Chandigarh, Kajauli Water Works, Phase-III was started, B2 status was granted to Central Government Employees, Punjab Pay Scale was granted to UT Employees and 12,000 houses were built to accommodate the poor. Whereas, Mr. Bansal who is the MP for 15 years has not done a single thing which can benefit the poor and as a result, wherever he goes to campaign he has to deal with public anger and he is greeted with black flags and his effigies are burnt. On the other hand Mr. Satya pal Jain who has been MP for 2 terms managed to get votes on Ram’s name and later they betrayed their God. How can he work for people’s benefit.
In his closing remarks he quoted the great Alam Iqbal’s couplet,
“Mazhab Nahin Sikhata Aapas Me Bair Rakhna,
Hindi Hain Hum Watan Hai Hindostan Hamara”
