Bansal was first to file nominations, Haq(RJD) and two independents also filed nominations.

 The candidates who filed their nomination papers included Pawan Kumar Bansal of the Indian National Congress and Haffiz Anwar-ul-Haq from the RJD and two independent candidates namely Gurcharan Singh Giani and Des Raj.
